“Instead of waiting to the end of the month, track expenses during the week. By the time the end of the month comes, you can look at your statement and be like, “I’ve already gotten all of this in here. Yep, everything matches up. It’s good.” It will just totally change your life.”

“When I say bookkeeping, it’s not only your personal bookkeeping or just keeping track of all your expenses, this could be businesses as well.”

“If your name is on an account - doesn’t matter what kind of account it is (credit card, bank account, savings, investments) - you need to have access to it and you need to be able to view the statements at any time of the day or night. That’s really step number one.”

“I think it’s really super important to forgive yourself for not taking action prior to having that conversation.”

Here are a few of the big topics we talked about:

  • Kelly introduces Amy and asks her to share what joy is to her.

  • Joy is an emotional state that we thrive in.

  • Amy shares how she went from focusing on her big time makeup career to realizing it wasn’t bringing her real joy.

  • Why we look to external validations to bring us joy.

  • Amy shares a tool that she uses to retrain our brain and the way we handle emotions, using the acronym N.A.C.

  • How reading personal development, going to conferences and listening to podcasts can actually teach us that what is in our mind, isn’t always true.

  • We don’t need to believe everything that is running through our heads.

  • If you’re feeling overwhelmed and like you don’t know who you are, start with a no brainer exercise -- ask yourself, “What do you actually know is true?”

  • Stop listening to the screaming negative voice!

  • You have to make the choice to love yourself everyday, it’s okay to take baby steps to get there.

  • Amy shares what her current morning practice looks like.

  • Kelly asks Amy what her Inner Voice is asking her to do.

In Amy’s Voice:

“We are programmed and conditioned to be addicted to all sorts of things. What would shift if we actually wanted to be addicted to our own happiness and our own joy?”

“The things that actually lit me up were so far out of my consciousness at that point because I was completely enveloped by what I thought I should do and what achievement meant and what status meant and how that correlated with my worth.”

“When I started getting involved in personal development and taking all sorts of courses and conferences and coach trainings, I thought it was in service of me gathering a bunch of skills so that I could impart all that wisdom on other people. And what I didn't anticipate was getting cracked wide open myself.”

“I find that when we get locked into this idea of, I don't know who I am, I don't know what I like anymore. We just spiral out and we're not resourceful, we're not creative.”

“It's not about perfection, and it's not about, "Oh my god, you failed because you didn't do it." It's a, "Oh look at this addition that I have to my day." Even that is a perspective for me.”

Jen Vertanen on Loneliness

Jen Vertanen is a coach, mentor, speaker, and writer who is encouraging people to share the hard stories and start to heal the places that hurt. Jen knows the power of telling your story (hers stems from an emotionally abusive childhood) so often that the shame starts to fade away.

Jen is also the creator and host of the podcast Going There with Jen Vertanen where she shares intimate conversations with people working to heal the places that hurt. She reminds people that we are never alone even though it oftentimes feels like it.

Known for her candor, willingness to go there (especially when it’s uncomfortable), humor, and openness, Jen is often thanked for asking the hard to answer questions and exploring the dark bits – even when (especially when?) it’s awkward.

Here are a few of the big topics we talked about:

  • Kelly introduces Jen and asks her to describe what loneliness is to her.

  • The story of Jen’s loneliness; how she identified it and how she began to overcome it.

  • Jen explains why it can be so hard to reach out to make connections when we’re feeling lonely.

  • Shame often plays a large role in loneliness.

  • Jen remembers the post she put on Facebook that spoke about her loneliness and began her healing process.

  • Jen’s support network and how they help her.

  • What it means to mirror for someone.

  • Jen talks about how she went from thinking she wasn’t good enough to have a network to honoring who she really was.

  • Kelly’s five year old you, meditation

  • Why we need to take time to mother ourselves.

  • Self-Compassion - by Kristen Neff

  • Jen shares some of her self-mothering practices.

  • Jen describes what loneliness can lead to if not “treated.”

  • It takes digging and excavating to get to the root of what is causing the loneliness.

  • Jen uncovers how she learned that she was worthy.

  • The not so pleasant parts of our life, that shape who we are, Jen calls Silver Linings.

  • Jen shares what her Inner Voice is telling her to do.

In Jen’s Voice:

“Loneliness is filled with shame. It's filled with embarrassment and heartache. Who wants to say, ‘I have no friends?’ Who wants to say, ‘I feel isolated. I don't feel connected?’”

“It's hard to say, ‘My heart feels broken and lonely.’"

“I think it was a moment of bravery or just putting it out there of like, ‘Hey, I suffer from loneliness. You'd never guess it, that's okay. My guess is there are others that are lonely. Either comment here or privately and we'll go from there.’"

“It's knowing that I can reach out and say, ‘I'm not doing okay today. I would like some lifting up.’ And knowing that the person receiving it is not judging but wants to help lift me up, and that I will do the same for them.”

“I'm very good at reading people. I think that comes from an emotionally abusive childhood. You have to become good at reading people for survival.”

“I would attend retreats and I would be with groups of women and I had no clue. I was able to hold tremendous space for them and they mirrored that back to me, that I was in this very safe, very comfortable, loving, space for them to share openly.”

“Loneliness is isolation and not feeling connected. I question how on earth can you be a good mother, a good friend, a good partner, spouse, employee, employer, all of it. If you're thinking that way you are fooling yourself and it's exhausting.”

“One ginormous silver lining is that I am now able to have more empathy, more perspective, more understanding, more of everything so that I can go forward and try to help someone be and feel less alone.”

“I've always meant to give a voice to those who don't have a voice and who aren't seen by society."

“If I'm not being challenged, if my brain is not being challenged, and my spirit's not being challenged, and I'm not trying to make my kid's world, and their kid's world a little bit better, than I wouldn't be sleeping well at night, or I wouldn't be able to feel the joy that I feel and the sadness that I feel. So it's part of making yourself whole.”

“I just think it took me awhile to get to this point of knowing it's okay to work really hard, and it's okay not to work.”

“You're supposed to be exactly who you're supposed to be, whether you stay home, or you work all the time, or whatever it is. You're all of those things.”

“We want to build a group of women who want to support each other and continuously open those doors for each other, because there are many things that we can all offer each other.”

A New Model for Love with Isabell Springer

Dr. Isabell Springer is a marriage and relationship therapist and a lifelong rule-breaker. Her divorce set her on a path to revolutionize the field of self-help and construct a new model for love. Passionate about personal growth and tired of the trial and error approach, Isabell founded LovEd, a self-improvement company committed to revolutionizing the way we love ourselves and others. She believes, when people have the courage to heal themselves they can become the people they were meant to be. When she’s not busy changing the game of love, she’s cleaning a litter box and raising a son to be an extraordinary human.

Here are a few of the big topics we talked about:

  • Kelly introduces Isabell and they dive right into the interview.

  • Isabell shares the story of how she has always been a rule-breaker.

  • The cultural conditioning that teaches us, as children, that we are not lovable.

  • Isabell shares how she create her New Model for Love and how she uses it to heal relationships.

  • Kelly asks Isabell to dive into how emotional maturity comes into play in a relationship.

  • Isabell’s program teaches us how to identify where I baggage comes from and how to handle it.

  • Self-awareness is the best way to truly create and develop a relationship.

  • Isabell’s work shows couples who have years invested how to identify what’s working and what’s not and she provides the tools you need to heal and re-create your relationship.

  • We don’t even know what baggage we’re carrying that can undermine our success.

  • Intuition is basically our old wiring.

  • Our ability to hear our inner voice is directly tied to how emotionally mature we are.

  • It’s important to know our value and our worth.

  • Isabell shares what her inner voice is telling her to do.

In Isabell’s Voice:

“You have to break rules in order to stand up for lots of things. Letting go of being polite, and doing the "right thing", or what culture says is the right thing, and listening to your inner voice, and listening to and embracing what you believe is your truth, and just standing up for what is your truth.”

“The message is that even to our own self detriment, when we sacrifice what we need and what we want, and what's important to us in order to have someone like us, or accept us, for being the measure for our value and our worth, we then abandon ourselves. We lose ourselves.”

“Every love relationship is comprised of two components, and that is romantic attraction, and emotional maturity.”

“Emotional maturity is the awareness of self, and your impact on others.”

“All of these experiences that we're all experiencing on some level and some kind of variation growing up, unless we're tending to that and being able to identify that and heal those past impactful experiences, we are inadvertently dragging them unconsciously into our love relationships.”

“Emotional maturity is something that we can grow, if we grow it on purpose.”

Heather currently resides in Southern California where between oatmeal making, diaper changing and dance parties she shares her heart by putting words on paper and using her hit Instagram account @macymakesmyday, to share the awesomeness of all things Down syndrome and adoption. “It is a bummer as a mom when you know that people don't see your children as worthy because they don't fit into that typical mold.”

“There was always this track in my life and in my heart towards an underdog even when I was little. I remember at school if I ever saw someone left out or hurting, I just couldn't even stand it. I couldn't stand the thought of somebody not being included and not being cared for.”

“It's just one foot in front of the other, one step at a time.”

“You just have to have a posture of humility when you're doing this work. I think the bravest thing is to humbly say something.”

Reflecting the Real You with Jackie Terribile

Jackie Terribile is the founder of The Small Town Stylist, a fashion styling and wardrobe consulting business for both personal and commercial clients. The personal styling service combines your taste, budget, and lifestyle to make you feel your best every day. Jackie started her career in NYC working in marketing and then fashion. As the assistant to a cutting edge stylist, she collaborated on projects for clients such as Bacardi and Bloomingdales, and created costumes for the lead singer of the band Garbage for their US tour and appearances at the Grammy Awards and Saturday Night Live. After relocating to the Syracuse area and starting a family, she realized there were many women in CNY who were looking for wardrobe consulting services and so she started her business, The Small Town Stylist. In addition to her personal clients, she also works with commercial clients such as Metro Mattress. Jackie has been featured in Central New York Magazine and was the official fashion stylist of the Boeheim Ball in 2016 & 2017. • Having a stylist come in and work with you is an investment of yourself, and is so worth it.

  • Jackie shares what her inner voice is saying.

In Jackie’s Voice:

“If you're not feeling good about yourself, we tend to put on things that are oversized, and cozy, and hide ourselves from the world, and not draw attention to ourselves. It’s a way of masking who we are on the inside.”

“We have guilt about spending money on ourselves, about taking time for ourselves. We don't want people to think that we try to look good, but we want to look good.”

“My clients can't believe that they could have happiness, or be happy with who they are. They need someone like myself to come in, and say, "Why not? Why can't you pull off that look? Why can't you do that? If you want to do it, why can't you?"

“The reflection that you see, is tainted by the story that's in your mind about whatever it is, your fears, or that you can't be heard, or that you're not good enough. You sometimes need somebody to reflect back a clearer message of who you are.”

“You don't want to create an image that's not really you, because it's so exhausting to have to be somebody else every single day,”

“I'm not saying you have to love to shop, or you have to love clothes, but you should not feel bad when you go into your closet, and get dressed”

In Natalie’s Voice:

“Something in me wanted freedom, peace and adventure, that I felt on that year of backpacking and I was determined to figure out what my thing is and start doing it.”

“When we're little,  we think our parents are gods. You know and the adults around us and society around us is God, they're the all knowing and we take in all of what they present us with, the good and the not so helpful”

“If you could wave a magic wand and make your life as great as it could be, what would it be?”

“I'm a huge, huge believer in inspired action. Just start taking action. Start moving the energy and the way opens, you will start seeing what works, what doesn't work, the right person and opportunity and circumstances.”

“Over the years I came to realize that as I go within and really hear the voice of my intuition and honor it, it never leads me astray.”

“My process in working with people tends to start with getting clear on what you really want and taking inspired action, working the mindset, working the fears that come up, working all the obstacles that come up as clients continue to learn more about themselves and take more inspired action.”
