In Her Voice Ep. 46: Circles of Change

Ophelia’s Place began out of a mother’s desperation to provide the treatment and care her children so desperately needed. Through an ad in the local paper and a billboard downtown, an immense need was identified in the community for those seeking support and resources for eating disorders. After days spent lobbying for mental health parity, months putting together workshops and organizing conferences, and years establishing a treatment and business model that was effective and sustainable; a mother’s desperation was transformed. What started as a crisis center grew into a  comprehensive care center offering support, treatment, education, and a safe community for anyone affected by eating disorders, disordered eating, or body image.

Circles of Change is a movement created by Ophelia's Place with three intentions in mind:

  • To change the culture and conversation surrounding health, beauty, and body image.

  • A creative way to provide long-term sustainability for Ophelia's Place.

  • A way to collaborate with like-minded, mission-driven organizations to support a cause.

Here are a few of the big topics we talked about:

  • What Ophelia's Place and Circles of Change is and how it was created

  • How we begin to redefine beauty

  • Why body dissatisfaction is so prevalent in our society

  • Self-love as a practice

  • How Holli and her mother, Mary Ellen, healed themselves through creating a support system for others

  • How we can change the conversation around loving ourselves

  • Why being healthy and losing weight should be two separate conversations

  • The importance that tapping into our worthiness has in our health and well-being

  • The ripple effect of circles of change

  • The normalization of the “typical” conversations women have about beauty, diet, weight, etc.

  • Take the Circles of Change Pledge

  • Specific things we can do to start changing the conversation

  • Be sure to check out the Circles of Change Market and get a shirt or a mug – change the conversation AND support Ophelia's Place!

In Holli's Voice:

I was so afraid to just show up as I am.”

Comparison destroys any joy that we have.”

In order to be healthy you have to start with worthiness.”

Changing the conversation around beauty has to start with us.”
